We would like to let you know our thoughts and prayers are with you, your family and friends from us here in South Dakota. Mark was a very special man to all of us. Many fun pheasant hunting trips were had by the group with Mark piloting the way. And the stories he would tell us about helping others in need by flying them to treatment across the country gave him great pride. Helping anyone, anytime seemed to be his top priority in life. I haven't worked at Bottorff as long as a lot of the other guys i work with day in and day out but Mark was always there every morning to say hello and say positive things to us all like thanks for putting in a long day yesterday our that u did a good job keep it up. He would always remember every ones name and talked to us all like a friend not like a boss talking to an employee it was a nice feeling to know that he cared about us. I was lucky enough to get to talk to mark Friday afternoon me (Jeff)(Rj) and Russ were working in north Platte Neb and he stopped by to see how we were doing and checking to see if there was any thing he could do for us. That is how i will remember him standing there in jeans in a jacket while we all had coats and coveralls on in the cold wind asking us if there was anything he could do to help us out or if we needed any thing and thanking us all for doing such a good job and driving all the way up here for a couple days worth of work . It was an honor and a privilege to have gotten to work for such a thoughtful and caring man he will be truly missed. Sincerely Travis Kelley

The last time I spoke to Mark, he was telling me about Justin’s and Jordan’s involvement in the company. He was so proud of you both and the fact that you were both involved brought him great joy. Hi Imo, I’m sure this email finds you with a heavy heart as I can only imagine the shock and grief that the Atchison community is feeling, today and into the future. I felt compelled to send you this note as I wanted to share the indelible influence Mark Bottorff left in my life. As a young man working for Mark (at Bottorff Construction)….his willingness to care for me beyond the realm of an employer-employee relationship has left a lasting, positive stamp in my personal life and professional career. I think it is “safe” to assume that I was not the most skilled laborer under the Bottorff Construction crest. However, Mark helped me to understand that hard work and integrity would be the character traits that any employer would value throughout my working career. I learned many life lessons as I watched Mark (a young businessman) demonstrate perseverance and compassion in his daily duties. I was treated like family by all of the Bottorff brothers. I was given “hours” to work on a consistent basis…and allowed to work “around the shop” when weather or other conditions sent most home for the day. It makes no matter what position I hold in my current company…as I think of Mark Bottorff any time I am considered for a promotion….this is Mark’s stamp he has left in my life. This is Mark’s gift to me. This is what I will pass on to my children.
