Obituary for Rita Ann Rettele (Strathman)

Rita Ann Rettele, 94, formerly of Atchison, died peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Presbyterian Manor, Topeka, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, Jan. 20th, 2018 at St. Benedict’s Church with Fr. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 12:45 pm on Saturday at St. Benedicts Church, when a parish rosary will be recited prior to the Mass. Memorials are encouraged by the family to St. Benedicts Church for Masses or to Great Lakes Caring Hospice, and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements. Rita A. Strathman was born on Sept. 5, 1923 in Seneca, KS the daughter of John and Barbara (Webber) Strathman. She was a housewife and homemaker for her family. She was a member of the Most Pure Heart Church, Topeka, KS. Rita was proud of her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed making rosaries and scapula’s for the church, doing yard work, and was a perfectionist in all that she did.

She was married to Jacob A. Rettele on Oct. 23, 1945. Mr. Rettele preceded her in death on March 18, 1982. Survivors include a son, Robert “Bob” ( Paulette) Rettele, Meriden, KS, a sister, Anna Marie(Don) Banks, Atchison, KS, a granddaughter, Jennifer (Tony) Rettele-Thomas, Manhattan, KS, two grandsons, Jaydon and Cole Thomas, of Manhattan, KS, a sister-in-law, Doris Strathman, Atchison, KS and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, Jacob, daughter, Nancy Jo Rettele, three brothers, Leonard, Carl, & Ben Strathman, and two sisters, Henrietta Carpenter, and Rosalia Becker and a special friend, Maggie Kramer, preceded her in death.
