Genevieve Marie “Shorty” Sumner, 84, of Lancaster, KS died on Monday, December 25, 2017 at the Atchison Hospital.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Friday, December 29th, 2017 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 28th, 2017 at the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mt. Vernon Cemetery Association and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Genevieve Marie “Shorty” Huffman was born on March 19, 1933 in Nortonville, KS the daughter of Herbert and Frances (Hazelett) Huffman. She attended Atchison High School and had worked behind the soda fountain at Ball Brother’s Drug Store from 1950-1958. She was married to Marvin A. Sumner on June 9, 1950 in Atchison, KS. She was a farm wife and helped her husband on the farm near Lancaster. Mr. Sumner preceded her in death on September 24, 2008. Shorty enjoyed watching television, reading and especially her children and grandson.

Survivors include two daughters, Pam Sumner, St. Mary’s, KS, and Sharon (Kim) McEvoy, Leavenworth, KS, a grandson, Sean Sumner McEvoy, Leavenworth, a sister, Frances “Tillie” Testerman, Parkville, MO, and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband Marvin, and five brothers, Herb, Ralph, Rod, Bill and Bob Huffman, preceded her in death.
