Vincent Miller Tharp, 96, of Atchison, KS, passed away, Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Medicalodge of Atchison, KS.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Atchison United Methodist Church, with Rev. Nancy J Kollhoff and Tom Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison, KS. Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church. The Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Atchison United Methodist Church or Atchison Humane Society and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Vincent was born January 7, 1920 in Atchison, KS, the son of Melvin and Mary (Miller) Tharp. He graduated from Kansas University with a Bachelor’s Degree. Vincent served in the United States Army Air corps. He worked for Social Security Administration. Vincent was a member of Atchison United Methodist Church, Kiwanis, two Coffee Clubs in Atchison, KU Alumni Association and their jazz band. Vincent recently received his seventy-five year membership pin from his fraternity Phi Delta Gamma. He enjoyed reading, watching movies; he was a real movie buff. In his younger years he played golf and tennis. Vincent loved visiting with people; he would go to nursing homes and hospitals just to visit with people.
Vincent married Rosemary Utz on February 4, 1943; she preceded him on January 3, 1996. Vincent married Louise Chew on July 25, 1998; she preceded him on September 10, 2014. Survivors include three sons; Eric Tharp, Fresno, CA, Stephen and Patricia Tharp, Prairie Village, KS and Jim Tharp, Albuquerque, NM, a daughter, Janet and Curt Yaws, Carlsbad, CA, a grandson, Brian (Jennie) Mellor and a great grandson, Mason Fulton.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother Warren Tharp.
