Donna S. Zura, 74, of Nortonville, KS, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Village Villa Nursing Home in Nortonville.

Donna will be cremated and no services will be held according to her wishes. Memorial contributions in honor of Donna are suggested to the Atchison Humane Society or to help with Donna’s final expenses and both may be sent in care of the O’Trimble Funeral, PO Box 267, Nortonville, KS 66060, who is entrusted with Donna’s final arrangements. Donna was born April 1, 1938 in Charleston, West Virginia, the daughter of Larry and Dorothy (Esty) Whitlatch. Donna graduated from high school in Parkersburg, WV. Most of Donna’s adult life was spent in the Apple Valley, California area where she worked as a manager of a motel and later a manager of a mobile home park. Donna was a foster mother while in California and took in children under emergency situations. While living in Apple Valley, she became friends with Roy Rogers and his son, Dusty, and the families spent many enjoyable times together. Donna moved to Nortonville in 2002 to be closer to her daughter, granddaughter and great-grandsons. Donna especially enjoyed flowers and working in her flower garden.

Donna is survived by a daughter, Katherine (fiancé, Jesse Moore) Hansen, Easton, KS; a son, Tom E. (Jerri) Sams, Grand Junction, CO; two granddaughters, Jeanette (Andy) Zink, McLouth, KS, and Kacie Sams, Grand Junction, CO; two great-grandsons, Chance and Tanner Zink; a brother, Chuck Whitlatch, Couer d’Alene, Idaho; and her dog, Duffy.
